Young and high-spirited entrepreneurs
Until recently, I did not have to look far to find a passionate entrepreneur who believed that their idea could become the next google and was willing to invest their life (and money) into making it happen. These days the entrepreneurs seem to have lost a bit of that unbridled passion having seen potential new customers disappear and money sources dry up.
However, for the last two days I was exposed to 41 would-be entrepreneurs that still look at the world with an innocent belief, the type of vision that dreams are made of and companies are born. Well it is true, they have not yet experienced the harshness of reality, as these talented individuals consisted of a group of high school students attending a summer intern program at USC Entrepreneurship Program.
What I saw in the chairs sitting before me was America’s future, something I have not seen in sometime and this gave me hope. These students chose to spend their summer in school rather than engaging in their peers activities of mindless summer fun—that sure is reminisce of my own entrepreneurial days.
I was teaching a finance class, similar to one I teach adultentrepreneurs and to my amazement by the end of session two they were answeringfinance questions that many long-time business owners don’t understand. I leftthe classroom feeling hopeful that America will still produce greatentrepreneurs and that hard work ethics still exist among the young. I was proudto have the opportunity to help tomorrow’s future business owners have a betterunderstanding about finance.
